The Email Marketer plans a week to a month of emails, writes each one in your saved formats, and hands them to you as proposals. Use it when you want a run of campaigns drafted for you. Nothing is sent or scheduled until you do it yourself.
Note
Available on the Business plan.
Before you start
- Agents need an AI model to write with. See Connect your own AI model.
- Save the email designs you want the agent to write in. See Save and reuse email formats. Without saved formats, the agent writes in the starter formats.
- Optional: connect Klaviyo in Campaigns if you want to pick an audience in the form. See Send campaigns with Klaviyo or any email platform.
Plan a run of emails
In the sidebar, click Agents.
Under Email Marketer, find the Plan email campaigns card and open its form. While the form is open, the button on the card reads Close.
Fill in the form:
- Start date: the first day the plan may use. It starts tomorrow by default and can't be in the past.
- Send time: the default time for each email, in your time zone. The plan may move an email to fit an event.
- Period: choose 1 week, 2 weeks or 1 month.
- Emails per week: choose 1 to 7. The hint under the field shows about how many emails that makes in total. The plan never has more than one email a day, and never more than 20 in total.
- Goals: write what each email should promote. Only what you write here, and your Pinned events, is promised in the emails. Include prices, dates and links you want used.
- Formats: tick the formats to write in, up to 5. If you have saved formats, the ones starred for the agent are ticked for you. If you tick none, the agent uses the starred formats, or the starters if there are none. You can save your own under Campaigns → Formats.
- Audience (optional): with Klaviyo connected, pick up to 5 lists or segments. They are copied onto every draft, and you can change them before scheduling. Without Klaviyo, set the audience on each draft later.
- Notes (optional): tone, things to avoid, what to lead with.
- Brief (optional): who the emails are for and what you want them to do, in your own words. Up to 4,000 characters.
Click Plan emails.
The run appears under the card. When its status reads Done, click Open to see the result. Planning takes a minute or two.
Review the proposed emails
The run page shows a Summary and a Report with The plan: a table of each email's date, time, subject and format. Under Items, each email appears as a card in the Emails section.
Check the card's header: the format, the send date and time, the time zone, and the status Proposed.
Click the small picture of the email, or Preview, to see it full size.
Open What this email is for to read the brief the agent wrote the email from.
Open the line that reads like 11 things to finish in the editor. It lists what still needs your attention, such as placeholders and links.
Proposed emails also show on your Calendar, on their send day. Click one there to review it with the same card. See Plan with the content calendar.
Edit an email before you approve it
On each card you can change the campaign name, the subject line, the preview text, the send date and the send time. Changes save when you move to another field, and Saving… appears briefly.
The counters beside the subject and preview fields show 60 and 90 characters as a target. They turn red when you go over. The email's design and layout are finished in the campaign editor after you approve.
Preview an email
- On the email's card, click Preview.
- In the top right of the preview, click the monitor icon for desktop width or the phone icon for phone width.
- Check the line at the top, which shows how the subject and preview text look in an inbox.
- Click the X icon to close the preview.
The preview uses sample values for merge tags. At the bottom it shows the email's size. If it is over about 102 KB, Gmail clips it, and the preview suggests removing a section or an HTML block.
Approve emails as drafts
Approving turns a proposal into a draft campaign in Campaigns. It is never scheduled or sent for you.
- Click Approve as draft to save the email as a draft campaign and stay on the run page. The card's status changes to Draft campaign, and a button to open the campaign appears.
- Click Approve & edit to save the draft and open it in the campaign editor straight away.
- Click Approve all as drafts (2) at the top of the Emails section to approve every waiting email at once. The number is how many emails are waiting.
- Click Dismiss on an email you don't want.
Once an email is approved, you can no longer edit it on the run page. From then on, the draft campaign is the email.
To finish a draft, see Create an email campaign and Design emails in the builder. To send, see Send campaigns with Klaviyo or any email platform. You can also click Copy HTML on a card to copy the whole email as HTML with Klaviyo merge tags.
Tips
- Put real prices, dates and links in Goals. The agent doesn't invent offers.
- Star the formats you want the agent to use by default, so they are ticked for you each time. See Save and reuse email formats.
- Manual runs are limited to 15 a day, and each run to about two minutes. For more on runs, see Run and schedule agent tasks.
- An all-caps subject line is rewritten in sentence case, and the report notes it.
Troubleshooting
The form says to pick a date or a time
If you see Pick a start date from today on or Pick a send time, choose a start date of today or later and make sure the send time is filled in.
A card says to give the email a name or pick a date and time
If a card shows Give the email a name or Pick a date and a time, the campaign name can't be empty, and the send date and time must both be filled in. Fix the field, then try again.
Fewer emails came back than I asked for
Open the report on the run page. Its Not written list names each email that was skipped and why. If the plan has no emails at all, add goals or events and run it again.
An email shows Failed
The card shows the reason and the status Failed. Fix it if you can, then click Approve as draft again to retry.
The draft was kept as I left it
If you approve an email whose draft you already changed in Campaigns, the draft stays as you left it, and the card says so.
